Time Constraints: The service of a Preliminary
Notice for Furnishing Labor, Materials or Equipment notice depends
on the type of entity you represent:
General Contractor: Serve your notice upon the
owner of the property with a copy of the contract (if available)
within 10 days after the work of improvement is agreed upon
by certified mail or personal service.
All others: Serve a copy of the Preliminary Notice
within 45 days of commencing work by certified mail or personal
service on the owners, general contractors and sureties, if
any.
Information Requirements: The type of document
you need, the information required by the program and whether
you intend to send an owner cover letter.
Form Types: Preliminary Notice for Furnishing
Labor, Materials or Equipment, Exhibits A-D (if needed) and
the Owner Letter (if used).
Procedures: Enter the program data, including

a copy of the preliminary notice on the owners within the time
frames described above. Service on prime contractors, lenders,

for Copy Of Public Bond.
Scope: State of Minnesota, Public Work.
Time Constraints: Send anytime after the start
of furnishing. While there is no public preliminary notice requirement
specifically for this state, you may have right to a Public
Improvement lien on unpaid funds or a claim on the project bonds.
The public entity is required to send you a copy of the payment
and performance bonds upon demand. See the Minnesota Bond or
Lien Claim, Public Works, record for more information.
If you do not have a copy of the surety bond already,
we strongly urge you to send this form. If you do have the information,
you are ready to file your public lien claim.
